AIMA to Hire 450 Employees Amid Rising Service Demand

AIMA (Agency for Integration, Migration, and Asylum) is set to expand its workforce by hiring 450 employees in response to increasing service demands. During a hearing at the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms, and Guarantees, AIMA President Pedro Portugal Gaspar stated that the agency currently employs 674 staff members, a 2% rise since its establishment in October 2023, following the dissolution of SEF and the High Commissioner for Migration.

Despite concerns about staff departures, AIMA has managed to maintain operational stability. To further strengthen its team, the agency plans to hire around 150 permanent employees through public service grants and other sources. Additionally, competitive hiring procedures opening this quarter, until early April, will enable the recruitment of 300 fixed-term employees for up to three years.

This expansion aligns with AIMA’s strategy to enhance efficiency, especially as the AIMA Mission Structure—responsible for handling pending cases—is set to close by mid-year.

AIMA (Agency for Integration, Migration, and Asylum) is set to recruit approximately 450 additional employees, marking a significant workforce expansion. AIMA President Pedro Portugal Gaspar acknowledged that while this reinforcement is crucial, the hiring process may face delays.

Speaking to journalists, Gaspar noted that external recruitment could attract a high number of candidates, requiring a selection process that might extend the timeline. Despite potential delays, AIMA remains committed to boosting its staff to meet increasing service demands effectively.
