Santos Populares Festival

Where to Experience Santos Populares in Lisbon:

The Santos Populares festivities kick off with Saint Anthony's feast day on June 13th, starting with the lively night before on the 12th.

The heart of the celebrations beats in the Alfama, Bairro Alto, and Graça neighborhoods, but the festive spirit spreads throughout the city.

Lisbon truly comes alive during this time, with one of the highlights being the Marchas Populares, a grand carnival parade along Avenida Da Liberdade. As night falls, traditional street parties ensue, accompanied by the infectious rhythms of Pimba music and the aroma of sizzling sardines.

The excitement builds towards Saint Anthony's feast day on the 13th, marking the beginning of a two-week extravaganza filled with Pimba bands and sizzling BBQ stalls serving Lisbon's favorite delicacy: grilled sardines.

In addition to the vibrant festivities, Lisbon adorns itself with dazzling decorations, including tinsel and streamers that rival the festive cheer of Christmas.
