When dealing with immigration matters in Portugal, especially with the Agência para a Imigração e Mobilidade e Asilo (AIMA), individuals may be required to submit a self-declaration to clarify how they entered the country. This document is crucial for providing details about your entry, including the mode of transport, the date of arrival, and other relevant information. This blog will guide you through the steps to create and submit a self-declaration for AIMA.

Self-Declaration

What is a Self-Declaration for Entry into Portugal?

A self-declaration for entry into Portugal is a formal statement in which you explain how and when you entered the country. This declaration is often required as part of the process for legalizing your stay in Portugal or submitting a Manifestação de Interesse (Expression of Interest). It is essential to provide accurate information, as the declaration will be used by AIMA to verify your immigration status.

Information Required in the Self-Declaration

In your self-declaration, you need to include specific details regarding your entry into Portugal. Here's what you should cover:

  1. How You Entered Portugal: Clarify the mode of transportation used, such as by land, air, or sea. For example:

    • If you entered by plane, mention the flight details.

    • If you entered by car or bus from another European country, state that you entered via a land border.

  2. Date of Entry: Specify the exact date you entered Portugal.

  3. NIF Number: Provide your Portuguese tax identification number (Número de Identificação Fiscal - NIF).

  4. File Lock Date (Manifestação de Interesse): Mention the date you submitted your Manifestação de Interesse, if applicable.

  5. NISS Number: If you have a Portuguese social security number (Número de Identificação da Segurança Social - NISS), include it.

  6. Passport Details: Include your passport number, the date of issue, and the expiration date.

  7. Personal Information: Ensure that your name, date of birth, and nationality are also clearly stated.
