Mandatory Rental of Unoccupied Houses Approved in Portugal

The ministers have given their approval to the Mais Habitação program's measure, proposed by the government, which encompasses the mandatory renting of houses in Portugal that have remained unoccupied for a period exceeding two years.

Despite facing significant criticism, the measure was approved, with the PS party voting in favor, BE and PCP abstaining, and PSD and IL voting against.

The proposal forwarded by the government to parliament specifies that owners of houses situated outside the country's interior, which have remained unoccupied for over two years, must respond within 90 days after receiving a notification to either carry out renovations or utilize the property.
